CPT Code 76970 is being Deleted

by AJ Riviezzo

The CPT Code 76970 post-procedure ultrasound is being deleted effective the first of the new year. It was not being used much so out it went. The question is what to use in its place.

The only code available now is 93971 limited diagnostic venous study of the lower leg(s). Because this is a diagnostic study it is important to ensure you have a bit more than ‘no DVT found’ in the interpretive report. We recommend reviewing the vein treated and noting if it is closed or open, whether or not there is any DVT’s found, and a bit of information on any other venous issues of note. Be sure, like on all ultrasounds, to note the technology utilized, protocol followed, and that the images are permanently recorded and on file. As always, your documentation on an ultrasound should meet ACR and IAC guidelines.
