Novitas Updates Part 2

by Cheryl Nash

Last newsletter we brought you some of the highlights and changes from Novitas’ future LCD, going into effect on Dec. 27th. This letter will bring to your attention some of the language added to the coding article that is the companion document to the LCD.

The coding article clearly outlines which codes are to be used for which services, most specifically for the non-thermal treatments.

It also includes other CPT language helping to assist practices to know what is and is not appropriate to submit for reimbursement to include bundling and unbundling as well as maximum units per day.

Another important section to review is the one on documentation requirements. Aside from the more familiar items is a bullet point about documenting the necessity for “serial ablation procedures on the same leg”. Pay very close attention to this language. A review of your current care plan as well as chart templates will be necessary to ensure your records meet these specifications.

We highly recommend reading this companion document in its entirety prior to the implementation date. Companion Document
