For years I have been advocating (badgering perhaps) the American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS) to increase the format and time window of classes specifically for physicians and practice managers regarding how to manage, market, hire, fire and all of the non-clinical elements. With lowered reimbursement (despite pending increases this year), making your hard-earned dollars work better and more efficiently for you and your practice is key.

The very good news is this year’s AVLS Annual Congress has a rather extensive program in regards to managing, owning and operating a small business (your practice). The practices I’ve seen not do well or fail were not because of clinical/technical skilss. It has been the lack of training and education on being a small business owner. Now is the time to learn new skills, consider new processes, or develop new ideas for marketing your services.

This year’s Annual Congress is October 9 – 11 in Washington, D.C. For full disclosure, I’ll be both exhibiting (do stop by to say hello and/or let me know what other topics you’d like us to write about) and teaching two segments. One is regarding issues and opportunities for pre-authorizations and the other is titled How to Fail an Audit. The last one sort of speaks for itself.

Here’s link to their website: AVLS Annual Congress I look forward to seeing many of you there.
