Quality of Life Concerns
by AJ Riviezzo
Most of our articles tend to be ‘warning’ articles. Do not bill this code with that code. Watch out for what Aetna or United is up to. Make sure your documentation meets the standards of an outside audit… not your own. This article is a warning article also in its own way.
One of the primary reasons physicians choose to open a phlebology practice is the desire to actually have a life outside of the hospital. Unfortunately, many physicians fail to see the downside of having a Quality of Life. There are some issues you MUST consider before actually obtaining a life.
First, your family may not really know what to do with you when you are home each evening and actually join them for the entire dinner. Caution must be employed by the savvy physician in these circumstances. Developing a reintroduction plan might be in order.
Second, you will now have time to take up golf or similar pastimes. These sound like fun but you must again be wary! I know of one physician who was finally able to invest a bit of time in golf… only to discover hip pain from an overly aggressive swing.
Finally, you should consider updating your passport. With the free time that owning your own phlebology practice allows, coupled with the revenue one can generate from said practice, your spouse may have grand designs of actually traveling… with you!
Congratulations to all of you who have gained a better quality of life and some small share of financial freedom.
